100 Days of Learning…

News from the Kindergarten classroom

February 26, 2022

This week in Kindergarten we celebrated our 100th day of school. The 100th day of school is a tradition celebration acknowledging the milestone of completing 100 days of learning. Our celebration incorporated several aspects of our curriculum, including math, reading, writing, phonics and social-emotional learning.

The day began with a discussion addressing the question of what it means to be 100 days smarter. Several students acknowledged the progress they have made in reading, while other students expressed their achievements in math.

Next, students partnered up to count out the 100 items they brought in.

For writing workshop, students brainstormed about what they would like to do when they turn100 years old. Each student drew a picture of what they would look like and wrote a sentence describing their activities.

During reading workshop, the students compared and contrasted two stories about celebrating the 100th day of school.  Students used a Venn diagram to represent the similarities and differences in each story. For social-emotional learning, students reflected on what it means be kind. Students shared their ideas and started creating a chart titled 100 Ways To Be Kind. During phonics, students practiced decoding 100 sight words.

To end the day, the students celebrated with a pancake party. They used pancakes to practice making tens and count to 100.

The students had a wonderful time celebrating the 100th day of school. This day provided an opportunity for students to self reflect on what they have learned and to set new goals for the remainder of the year.
