What is a Publishing Party?
Students engaged in Writing Workshop generally spend between 4-6 weeks learning and applying different writing skills, strategies and behaviors associated with a particular unit of study. During this time, students have an opportunity to brainstorm, draft, revise and edit their writing in an attempt to make it the very best it can be! In an effort to celebrate students’ hard work and dedication throughout the unit of study, a celebration ensues. This celebration is often referred to as a Publishing Party. The Publishing Party is a time where young authors proudly share their final published writing piece with an audience.

Our Fairytale Tea!
Over the past few weeks, students have been adapting fairytales using narrative writing skills. Our goal was to take well-known fairytales and change characters, events, and motivations to create a new story. Students were introduced to this idea through “Fixed Fairytales” a video in which traditional fairytales are “fixed” and have different endings.
Students got into character as they performed their stories to the class! We enjoyed tea, juice, and other snacks as a celebration.
