This week in the Otters classroom we worked on task’s together instead of individually to give them a chance to test out their skill’s. We used many different types of materials and let the student’s choose what and who they wanted to work with. The right socially interactive environment will help students develop strong language skills, creativity, and social intellegence.
Social intelligence is Social intelligence refers to a person’s ability to understand and manage interpersonal relationships. It is distinct from a person’s IQ or “book smarts.” It includes an individual’s ability to understand, and act on, the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of other people. (WCPS)
Developing these skills in preschool is a building block to how these students will be able to interact , understand, and interpret others for the duration of their lives. Students working together on tasks allows us teachers to see how well these skills are developing and opens up teachable moments to further develop this skill set. It also gives us an idea where a student is for Kindergarten readiness.
