A Very Mathematical Parent Lunch
Thanks to a lot of planning and hard work by parent coordinators, as well as our Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade students, we had an exciting and informative parent lunch this past Wednesday!
While the lunch just so happened to take place on Halloween, the theme was purely mathematics! Students set up eight different stations around the lobby, each with a different math game that demonstrated a principle from what students have been studying most recently in class. The lunch was a veritable whirlwind of mathematic activity, as you can see in the photos below! Where is your child in the photos below?
(And, for that matter — where’s Waldo in the photos below?)
Additionally, later in the week Fourth and Fifth grade students worked on multiplication of fractions using tiled arrays. Students created patterns with tiles in order to gain a better grasp on exactly what, for example, 1/4 times 24, or 1/2 times 24, actually look like.
Can you follow along with these math students as they walk us through principles of multiplying fractions?
The Annual Halloween Parade
On Wednesday morning, PNA hosted the annual Halloween Parade and Morning Meeting. Parents were welcome to join students to watch, and highlights included each class putting on their own parade, a themed game in which students in different costumes got to show off them off, and a competition to guess the favorite candies of PNA’s teachers!
In the video below, Fifth Grade’s own Jamariol wins the ‘favorite candies’ competition!
The Obstacle Course!
The Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades had the honor of being a part of something very special this week — the opening ceremony, and dedication, of an obstacle course designed and built by PNA’s own Eighth Grade class!
Students took a short hike over to Ruth Arcand Park, where they became the very first people in all the world to try out the obstacle course created by PNA’s Eighth Grade class under the supervision of none other than Ms. Mariner!
In the videos below, several Fourth and Fifth Grade students try a few obstacles for the very first time!
