Parent-Teacher Partnerships

News from the 3rd Grade classroom

March 3, 2018
Ongoing research shows that parental involvement in schools contributes positively to student academic achievement. A study conducted done by scholars from University of North Carolina presents facts on how parent involvement and student achievement are associated with each other. Another study conducted by Child Trends indicates that by simply showing up at a school event or attending a parent-teacher meeting improves students’ performance. At PNA,  parental support has been an integral part of our success. Parents and teachers share a common core of values towards educating and raising children. The following recent events show a good working partnership between PNA and parents that create a positive impact on students’ academic and social emotional skills. Third Grade is especially lucky for having wonderful parents who always go above and beyond to help and support the teacher.

1. Parent-Teacher Conferences
Student-led conferences in 3rd grade had 100% participation. These conferences engage students in the process and provide powerful opportunities for students to advocate for their own learning.
2. Third-Eighth Grade Musical

There were many parents who took their time on a weekend to help set up the stage. Parents and families who watched the show showed how much they support their child. Their presence makes the performance more meaningful to our student performers.
3. Parent Lunch
Parents and students worked together on creating a board game that teaches others salmon life cycle. Then, parents and students enjoyed lunch together in the classroom.

4. PNA Parent as a Guest Speaker
Second and third graders are working on a joint project and together they welcomed a second grade parent as a guest speaker who talked to both classes about salmon shipping. The students especially enjoyed getting in the shipping truck and getting to blow the horn.
Special shoutout to all PNA parents!
You are important to us!
