The Value of Electives

News from the Middle School classroom

One of the best things to do with kids on a Friday afternoon after a science test is to engage with them in a fun activity of their choice.  The offerings this “quarter” are: Snow, Relief Wood Carving, Set Design, and Mandala the Science Lab.
​At Pacific Northern Academy, these electives fit well within our standards.  The following are a few we are currently assessing:

PNA Electives Standards:

  • PNAE6.7.8a  Gain an appreciation of backyard resources.
  • PNAE6.7.8b   Plan a design and create it.
  • PNAE6.7.8c  Realize that trying something new may change your life.
  • PNAE6.7.8d  Construct authentic investigations of friction using ice, wood, and metal blades.
  • PNAE6.7.8e  Apply the brakes when necessary.
  • PNAE6.7.8f  Use kinetic energy to elicit attitude adjustments.
  • PNAE6.7.8g Analyze color palettes to choose the best options for a cool project.
  • PNAE6.7.8h    Develop friendships.
  • PNAE6.7.8i Explore the beauty and power of color and pattern to brighten your world.
  • PNAE6.7.8j  Express creativity while perfecting chatting and laughter skills.
  • PNAE6.7.8k   Release perfectionism and embrace “mistakes” in art.
  • PNAE6.7.8l   Create resourceful uses for everyday objects.
