Ms. Renae Bookman worked with them in the Tech Den, exploring stop-motion video using our school iPads. The groups took off running! Their task was to create a short (1-2 minute) film portraying their guideline. They brainstormed, story-boarded, designed sets, took hundreds of photos, and edited voice-overs and other special effects. Students used a variety of mediums (claymation, pixilation, and cut-out animation) to create their movies.
Not only did they learn how to use technology but they discovered the power of collaborative working strategies. We discussed the importance of compromise and maintaining respectfulness, even when you may disagree. Overall, they overcame obstacles, creating creative and charming finished products.
Next week, we will finalize our guidelines and discuss ways to ensure we have a successful year. Ms. Mariner and I are so looking forward to working with these unique, enthusiastic and inquisitive 6th, 7th, and 8th graders!
