Bienvenue! Enchanté!!
Je m’appelle Madame Kamille L. Dawson!
I am the new Middle School Science, CC1, and CC2 Math teacher. I am a native of Pine Bluff Arkansas where I attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, graduating with a BS in Biology Pre-Medicine, Go Lions! This is my 7th year in education. My educational experiences have been a blessing, from working within a nonprofit to better assist students one on one to moving to the Middle East teaching Science and Math in Kuwait. As a teacher of two of the most undesired subjects, I have made it my plight to help students better understand Science and Math, and how they relate to everything around us. My motto,“you need them, and will use them one day”.
My aspiration this school year is to be a beacon of relatable educational learning to all students where they feel safe, inspired, and challenged.
Here’s a brief look into our Science and Math Curricula.
STEMSCOPES
Stemscopes is a “for teachers, by teachers” STEM based curriculum that is strictly standards-aligned. It’s an inquiry-based curriculum adopted to use effective STEM instructional practices, improve student performance, and increase the engagement of parents through high quality, customized, standards-aligned, hands-on digital STEM curricula and resources.
AMPLIFY SCIENCE
Amplify is a Phenomena based Next Generation Science curriculum that blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers. These standards focus on moving instruction away from memorization and toward active engagement, teaching students to think like scientists and engineers, grapple with core scientific principles, and support deep learning of concepts that cut across domains.
COLLEGE PREPARATORY MATH
CPM Educational Program is a non-profit curriculum and professional development organization built through collaboration between teachers, researchers, and mathematicians. CPM’s curriculum materials use problem-based lessons, collaborative student study teams and spaced practice with course concepts. This CCSS-aligned curriculum builds upon 25 years of experience writing problem-based, student-centered curriculum embedding the mathematical practices within lessons focused on big ideas and mathematical connections.
Thank you for taking the time to read this blog.
Stay tuned to my next blog post, “So, you want to experiment in the lab?”
But until then I leave you with this quote by the late great Jackie Robinson.
“A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”
