Pacific Northern Academy is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the preschool, early kindergarten, and kindergarten classes.
Assistant Teachers provide enrichment, supervision, and care to students during the school day. Duties will include:

Implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum set by the classroom teachers and PNA

Supporting the social and emotional development of students and maintaining an emotionally safe environment

Helping students build independence
-
Applying firm yet fair discipline
-
Planning and following the daily activity schedule
-
Facilitating developmentally-appropriate activities
-
Maintaining a positive and professional relationship with parents, staff, and students
-
Actively monitoring and engaging with students during free play time
-
Actively supervising the classroom, outdoor playground, gym
-
Monitoring lunches and morning and afternoon snacks
-
Preparing and cleaning up of activities and classrooms as directed
Other Job Duties:

Make children and parents feel welcome

Be an enthusiastic member of the PNA team

Responsible for opening or closing tasks daily

Completing necessary documentation, including attendance sheets, medical forms, accident and incident reports

Light administrative duties such as filing, copying, documentation
This position reports directly to the Preschool Program Director. This position is often the first line of contact with parents, so a high level of interpersonal skills is valued.
Qualifications:

Meet the minimum age requirement of 18 as dictated by Municipality of Anchorage Child Care Licensing codes

Experience working with children in an education or childcare capacity

Completion of high school or equivalent or will do so in the next six months

Must successfully pass a background check

Demonstrate genuine concern, kindness, and respect to all staff, parents and children

Display a high level of integrity, responsibility, and reliability

Be a self-starter, able to work independently as well as effectively contribute as part of a team
Physical Aspects of the Job:
Work environment is typical of a school environment however this position involves daily exposure to weather elements. Candidates must possess adequate vision, hearing acuity, physical ability, strength, and stamina to perform the required responsibilities of activities associated with supervision and program delivery; ability to lift 35 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field.
This is a full-time, salaried, benefit-eligible position. Salary is DOE.
