Job Classification: Temporary, Full time; no more than 40 hours per week
Hours: Varied shifts scheduled between 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., M-F
Compensation: $25 hr
Position Purpose:
Assistant Director supports the camp experience by assisting the Camp Director with the overall administration, management and supervision of a comprehensive summer camp program serving children grades K-8.
Essential Job Functions:
This role requires strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills in order to prioritize a broad range of responsibilities throughout the day related to operating a camp program.
Duties will include:
- Assisting the Camp Director with the planning, marketing and promotion, scheduling, execution, budgeting and evaluation of camp staff and programs
- Provide the highest level of customer service to parents, staff and children enrolled in camps
- Occasionally greeting, checking-in and checking-out campers with camp management software as they arrive and depart and serving as liaison between parents and summer camp staff or Camp Director
- Maintaining site security, receiving visitors on site, fielding inbound emails and phone calls, as well as calling parents/guardians and navigating sensitive conversations regarding injuries, account issues, behavioral issues, etc. under the direction of the Camp Director
- Occasionally supervising the First Aid station, which includes administering and documenting treatment of injuries and other medical issues
- Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies-Fire, Earthquake, Animals
- Responsible for risk management reporting including facility safety, accident and incident reports
- Training and supporting camp staff as needed
- Maintaining camper records and communicating with parents weekly by email
- Occasional supervision of campers
Relationships:
This position reports directly to the Camp Director, but may work independently, as a team, or under the direction of the Head of School. This position is often the first line of contact with parents.
Software & Equipment Used:
- Ultracamp Online Registration System, Survey Monkey, Google Sheets, Docs, Gmail, and/or MS Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Office Equipment: Photocopiers, videoconferencing, and general office equipment
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate genuine concern, kindness, and respect to all staff, parents and children
- Display a high level of integrity and responsibility
- Be a self-starter, able to work independently as well as effectively contribute as part of a team
- Meet the minimum age requirement of 18 as dictated by Municipality of Anchorage Child Care Licensing codes
- 1 year experience working in a summer camp setting
- 3 years experience working in an educational or child care setting (preferred)
- Completion of high school or equivalent
- Must successfully pass a background check

Work environment is typical of a school environment however this position involves daily exposure to weather elements. Candidates must possess adequate vision, hearing acuity, physical ability, strength, and stamina to perform the required responsibilities of activities associated with supervision and program delivery; ability to lift 35 pounds.
